It will be a merry long Christmas break.
The Department of Education (DepEd) has set the start of the Christmas break for Kindergarten pupils up to Grade 12 students in public schools on Dec. 15.
According to DepEd Order 007, series of 2019, the calendar for school year 2019-2020 set the start of the Christmas break on Dec. 15 and the resumption of classes after the holidays on Jan. 6, 2020.
In a report from Philipine Star, Education Undersecretary Nepomuceno Malaluan said the Christmas break schedule would not be affected by the number of class suspensions imposed on the respective localities of public schools in the past months.
If ever there is a need for adjustments, Malaluan said the DepEd central office is leaving the decisions up to the regional, division and school administrators.
For Education Undersecretary Annalyn Sevilla, the DepEd order setting the school calender was only for public schools. Private schools have the freedom to set their own Christmas break schedules.
Meanwhile, Kindergarten to Grade 12 learners in public schools nationwide will start their semestral break on October 21, and resume their classes on October 28.
