World’s tallest tower lights up with colours of the Philippine flag on June 12

CEBU CITY- Hundreds of Filipinos in Dubai gathered outside the Burj Khalifa on Wednesday, June 12, to witness the world’s tallest building lit up in colors of the Philippine flag in celebration of the nation’s 121st Independence Day.

It’s the first time that the world’s tallest building, whose façade is covered with LED screens, lit up with the Philippine flag’s colors.

There are an estimated 700,000 to 1 million Filipinos in the UAE.

A crowd of Filipinos erupted in cheers when Dubai’s 160-storey Burj Khalifa was bathed in red, white and blue lights, accentuated by 3 stars and the sun.

Reports said that some overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) traveled to Dubai to witness the brief light show on the iconic tower.

“I am so proud,” former ABS-CBN talent Ricky Fernadez told Bohol Island News.

The Philippine Consulate General in Dubai and the Northern Emirates organized the event.

The Burj Khalifa is 2,716.5 feet or 828 meters in height. It currently holds the record as the tallest building in the world.

Meanwhile, at the Dubai’s Festival City Mall, it also displayed the images of reigning Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray and boxing icon Manny Pacquiao.
