TAGBILARAN CITY — A house and store were destroyed in a fire believed to have started when an electrical induction cooker exploded in the kitchen along R. Enerio Street here Monday night, Sept. 28.
The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) received the alarm at 7:13 p.m.
According to homeowner Evangeline Mondella, 61, the fire started in the kitchen of the main house while her grandchild was cooking. The induction cooker reportedly exploded, triggering the rapid spread of the fire.
Mondella, a widow, lived in the house with her three children and four grandchildren. The fire destroyed the house, store and their personal belongings.
Boarders at a nearby boarding house said they saw flames coming from the main house and immediately fled to safety.
Responding were the BFP-Tagbilaran, TaRSIER 117, and fire trucks from BQ and Alturas.
The fire was brought under control at around 7:29 p.m. and declared out at 8:31 p.m. It was placed under the first alarm.
No one was injured.
