TAGBILARAN CITY — The Governor’s Cup Basketball D-League Season 4 has been indefinitely postponed as Bohol continues to grapple with an ongoing energy crisis, organizers announced in an official statement.

The Governor’s Cup Basketball D-League Commission said it fully supports the decision of Governor Aris Aumentado to put the tournament on hold, citing the need to prioritize public welfare and ensure the stability of essential services across the province.

“In light of the emerging energy crisis that continues to affect our province and the broader community, the Commission fully supports the prudent and timely decision… to indefinitely postpone the Governor’s Cup Basketball D-League Season 4,” the statement read.

While acknowledging the excitement surrounding the league, the Commission emphasized that the move reflects a broader responsibility to stand in solidarity with affected communities during a challenging time.

The league, a key grassroots basketball program in Bohol, gathers local teams, players, and coaches from across the province. Organizers recognized the effort and preparation of all participants but assured them that development initiatives will continue despite the suspension of formal competition.

The Commission said it will roll out basketball skills training programs, coaching development sessions, and structured team workouts at the local level to sustain athlete development while the tournament remains on hold.

It also urged teams and stakeholders to coordinate with organizers for training support and scheduling arrangements.

“This is not a setback, it is a pause with purpose,” the Commission said, expressing optimism that the league will return stronger once conditions improve.

The postponement adds to a series of event suspensions in Bohol as authorities respond to the impact of rising fuel and energy costs on the local economy.
