BILAR, Bohol — Around 30 passengers escaped death and major injuries after a Rimon passenger bus reportedly suffered a steering wheel malfunction and plunged down a slope along the Loay–Carmen Interior Road in the forested area of Barangay Villa Aurora, Bilar, on Sunday afternoon, July 27.
The accident occurred at approximately 2 p.m. while the bus was traveling along the interior road.
According to initial reports, the bus experienced a steering wheel malfunction, causing the vehicle to gradually drift toward the edge of the roadway before falling down the slope.
Emergency responders immediately rushed to the scene to carry out rescue operations.
A total of 25 personnel from the Bilar Fire Station, Loboc Fire Station, and the Special Rescue Force from the 1st and 3rd Districts responded, together with the Bilar Search and Rescue Unit, the Bilar Municipal Police Station, and TaRSIER 117.
Rescuers safely evacuated all passengers from the bus.
Fortunately, initial reports confirmed that no fatalities or major injuries were recorded, although authorities have yet to determine the full extent of minor injuries sustained by some passengers.
Authorities are conducting an investigation to determine the exact cause of the incident, while the reported steering wheel malfunction is being considered as the initial cause of the crash.
