CARMEN, Bohol — A 37-year-old man was found dead after reportedly drowning in floodwaters in Sitio 1, Barangay Villarcayo, Carmen, authorities said.

The Carmen Municipal Police Station received a report of the incident at around 11:50 a.m. on Sunday, July 26, 2026.

The victim, a resident of Sitio Luyo Suba, Barangay Villarcayo, was believed to have been swept away by strong floodwaters from Sitio Kairit, Poblacion Norte, before his body was later recovered in Sitio 1, Barangay Villarcayo.

Based on the initial police investigation, the victim may have attempted to cross a flooded area amid heavy rains brought by the southwest monsoon, locally known as Habagat, when he was carried away by the strong current.

Police said the victim had not returned home since July 25.

According to his employer, he failed to report for work on both Friday and Saturday, prompting concern over his whereabouts.

Upon receiving the report, the Carmen Response Team immediately conducted a retrieval operation and recovered the victim’s body. His motorcycle was also found in the area where he was believed to have been swept away.

Authorities identified drowning as the cause of death. The incident serves as another reminder for the public to avoid crossing flooded rivers and waterways during periods of heavy rainfall.
