TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol — The City Government of Tagbilaran has assured the public that there is no verified or credible threat against Mansasa National High School, Tagbilaran City College, or any other school in the city following the circulation of an alarming social media post.
In an official statement, Mayor Jane Yap said authorities said an immediate investigation was launched by the Tagbilaran City Police Station in coordination with the Department of Education (DepEd), school officials, the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), and other concerned agencies.
The investigation found that the viral screenshot was shared by a 15-year-old Grade 10 student of Mansasa National High School, who voluntarily appeared before authorities with his guardian. The student explained that he merely reposted a screenshot of a Facebook post he had seen on his newsfeed to inform his classmates.
Authorities said there is no evidence that the student created the original post or intended to spread fear or cause public alarm.
Police also confirmed that the original Facebook account responsible for the alleged threat has not yet been identified, as it was not visible in the circulating screenshot.
Investigators further discovered that similar Facebook posts with identical messages have surfaced in several cities and municipalities across the country, with only the names of the schools being changed. Authorities believe this may be part of an organized or copycat online hoax designed to sow fear, confusion, and panic among the public.
The City Government said it is treating the incident seriously and has ordered the Tagbilaran City Police to conduct a digital forensic investigation to identify the original source of the post, preserve electronic evidence, trace the uploader through lawful means, and determine whether criminal charges may be filed against those responsible for spreading false information.
Meanwhile, security measures have been heightened in schools through increased police visibility, closer coordination with school administrators and barangay officials, and continuous monitoring to ensure the safety of students, teachers, and school personnel.
The City Government also urged the public to verify information before sharing alarming posts on social media, warning that the spread of unverified information—even with good intentions—can create unnecessary panic, disrupt classes, and divert authorities from responding to genuine emergencies.
Officials said they will continue to provide updates as verified information becomes available, emphasizing that the safety and security of every Tagbilaranon remains their highest priority.
