TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol — Murder charges have been filed against the 18-year-old suspect in the killing of Dexter “Dex” Timbal Hinayon, an administrative officer of the Bohol Island State University (BISU)-Candijay Campus.
The Bohol Police Provincial Office (BPPO) confirmed that the Candijay Municipal Police Station filed the complaint on July 23 before the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office in Tagbilaran City.
The suspect, identified as Jesse Riquez, a first-year college student and resident of Purok 1, Barangay Can-olin, Candijay, was arrested just hours after Hinayon’s body was discovered in the same village on July 21.
Authorities said the victim was found with tape wrapped around him, his hands tied, and his body stuffed inside a fertilizer sack.
Police alleged that the suspect strangled Hinayon and struck him with a piece of wood during a confrontation reportedly involving money before binding the victim and concealing the body inside the sack.
Investigators also said Riquez admitted his involvement in the crime during the hot pursuit operation that led to his arrest.
The BPPO has declared the case solved.
The suspect remains detained at the Candijay Municipal Police Station while awaiting a court commitment order for his transfer to the district jail.
