GETAFE, Bohol — Authorities intercepted 35 live piglets that were illegally transported from Cebu to Bohol in violation of the province’s biosecurity measures aimed at preventing the entry of African Swine Fever (ASF).
Personnel from the Getafe Municipal Police Station and the Philippine Coast Guard Substation-Getafe initially discovered 26 piglets aboard a boat after the shipment was found to lack the required legal documents.
The operation, conducted on July 15, was followed by another operation in Barangay Salog, where authorities seized nine more piglets, bringing the total number of confiscated animals to 35.
According to the provincial government of Bohol, the piglets originated from San Francisco, Cebu, and were reportedly intended for delivery to Bohol in violation of Executive Order No. 28 issued by Governor Erico Aristotle “Aris” Aumentado.
The executive order prohibits the entry of live pigs and pork products into the province as part of measures to prevent the spread of ASF.
The confiscated piglets were turned over to the Getafe Municipal ASF Inter-Agency Task Force and the Office of the Provincial Veterinarian for proper disposition, while authorities continue to investigate the incident and identify those responsible for the illegal transport of the animals.
