LOBOC, Bohol — A hydraulic excavator sank into the Loboc River on Thursday morning while being used for an ongoing flood control project.

The incident occurred at around 8 a.m. on July 9.

According to PO2 Lyrichel Bryle P. Ramonida of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG)-Loboc, who spoke with DYRD Balita, the barge carrying the hydraulic excavator suddenly lost its balance while the equipment was conducting sheet piling operations for the flood control project.

The excavator operator managed to escape unharmed, and no injuries were reported. The barge was later successfully righted.

As of this writing, the hydraulic excavator, owned by CCM Construction, remains submerged in the river. Ramonida said plans are still being finalized on how to retrieve the heavy equipment from the riverbed.
