TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol — A police officer has been charged with attempted murder following a shooting incident in Buenavista town that left a civilian and a 12-year-old child injured, the Bohol Police Provincial Office (BPPO) said on Saturday.

In a statement, the BPPO identified the suspect only as a 33-year-old Philippine National Police (PNP) personnel who was involved in the June 30 shooting in Barangay Lusong, Buenavista.

The victims, a 37-year-old civilian and a 12-year-old minor, sustained injuries and were immediately given medical treatment.

Police said the officer voluntarily surrendered to the Buenavista Municipal Police Station shortly after the incident and is now under police custody.

The BPPO said criminal charges for attempted murder have been filed against the officer. Administrative proceedings have also been initiated in accordance with existing PNP rules and regulations.

Bohol Provincial Police Director Col. Patricio Degay Jr. condemned the incident, stressing that the police organization does not tolerate unlawful acts committed by its personnel.

“The Bohol Police Provincial Office does not and will never condone or tolerate any act that violates the law or the trust bestowed upon us by the public. Our police officers are sworn to protect lives, uphold justice, and serve the people with integrity. Anyone who deviates from these principles shall be held fully accountable under the law,” Degay said.

He assured the public that the case would be handled impartially and that justice would take its course.

The BPPO emphasized that while the incident has tarnished the image of the police force, it does not reflect the dedication of the many officers who continue to serve the people of Bohol with honor, integrity, and professionalism.

The provincial police office also reiterated its commitment to discipline, transparency, and accountability, saying that no police officer who violates the law, regardless of rank or position, will be spared from the full force of justice.
