MARIBOJOC, Bohol — Repair works on the damaged approach of Bato Bridge in Barangay Cabawan, Maribojoc have been further delayed after waters from the Abatan River overflowed due to high tide, leaving the bridge impassable and complicating ongoing rehabilitation efforts.

Authorities reported that the water level reached 1.2 meters on the morning of June 15 and is expected to rise to as much as 2.1 meters on June 16, worsening conditions in the affected area.

Photos shared by residents showed floodwaters covering portions of the road leading to the bridge, preventing the passage of vehicles and pedestrians.

The bridge approach has remained unstable despite repair efforts that included compaction work and the placement of limestone fill materials. Engineers said the affected section continues to sink, posing significant challenges to restoration works.

The bridge approach first showed signs of collapse on June 9, prompting authorities to close the structure to traffic. The closure has caused major inconvenience to residents, commuters, and students who rely on the bridge for daily travel.

Some students have reportedly been forced to walk long distances to reach their schools as a result of the disruption.

Local authorities continue to monitor the situation while repair crews await more favorable conditions to proceed with rehabilitation efforts.

Persistent high tides and unstable ground conditions remain major obstacles to restoring access across the bridge.

Officials have urged the public to observe safety precautions and use alternative routes while repairs are ongoing.
