TAGBILARAN CITY — A chartered direct flight from Japan has arrived in Bohol on Saturday, May 2, marking a significant boost to the province’s tourism industry following recent international promotions.

The flight from Narita International Airport carried 164 Japanese tourists via Cebu Pacific Flight 5J8811, signaling renewed travel interest from the Japanese market.

Welcoming the passengers at the airport were Consul-General of Japan in Cebu Yudai Ueno, Bohol Governor Aris Aumentado, and other local officials who joined the ceremonial water cannon salute to mark the flight’s arrival.

Aumentado said the milestone comes after a successful tourism business mission in Japan, which helped pave the way for the direct chartered flight.

He expressed optimism that this will lead to regular direct flights between Japan and Bohol through continued collaboration with JTB Asia Pacific Philippines Corporation.

Tourism stakeholders highlighted that the arrival of more international visitors, particularly from Japan, is expected to further strengthen Bohol’s tourism sector and generate economic opportunities for local communities.

Aumentado said the development underscores Bohol’s continued appeal as a top destination for both domestic and international travelers despite global economic challenges.

“More international arrivals mean greater opportunities for our tourism industry,” he said, as they welcomed the Japanese visitors to the island.

Aumentado said the provincial government reaffirmed its commitment to promoting sustainable tourism as it continues to attract more global markets to Bohol.
