TAGBILARAN CITY — The Bohol-Panglao International Airport has begun initial terminal reconfiguration works aimed at improving passenger comfort, accessibility, and operational efficiency as part of phased infrastructure enhancements.

The initiative is led by Aboitiz InfraCapital, Inc. (AIC), the infrastructure arm of the Aboitiz Group, marking the start of planned improvements across key passenger areas of the country’s 10th-busiest airport, also known as the “Green Gateway to the World.”

AIC Vice President and Head of Airports Rafael M. Aboitiz said the reconfiguration is part of ongoing efforts to enhance the passenger journey at the airport, citing strong coordination with the provincial government of Bohol, the Department of Transportation (DOTr), and the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP).

“This reconfiguration marks an important step in our continuing efforts to enhance the passenger journey,” Aboitiz said, noting that the collaboration allows the implementation of upgrades that benefit travelers and the local economy.

CAAP Director-General Ret. Lt. Gen. Raul Del Rosario said the project is part of a broader effort to improve the country’s aviation gateways, ensuring safer and more efficient airport operations through upgraded facilities and better design.

The DOTr and CAAP approved the reconfiguration plans in March 2026, including layout adjustments, security plans, and additional equipment clearance from the Office of Transportation Security, paving the way for implementation as AIC approaches its first year of managing airport operations in June 2026.

Following the approval, Gov. Erico Aristotle Aumentado met with BPIA General Manager Aldwin C. Uy to discuss terminal improvements, concessionaire feedback, and potential expansion of space for Boholano products and delicacies in support of the provincial government’s development agenda.

“Gateway sa atong probinsya ang Bohol Panglao International Airport, mao nga kuyog ang Aboitiz Group… magtinabangay kita nga mapalambo ug mapanindot pa kini,” Aumentado said, emphasizing the importance of collaboration in enhancing the province’s main air gateway.

Officials said the improvements will be implemented gradually, with updates to be rolled out as the project progresses, aiming to deliver a more seamless, comfortable, and efficient travel experience.

The reconfiguration is part of AIC Airports’ long-term commitment to support Bohol’s growth as a tourism and investment hub while ensuring that airport facilities keep pace with rising passenger demand.
