TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol — A 15-year-old swimmer from Tagbilaran City has emerged as one of the region’s brightest young athletes after a dominant showing at this year’s Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (CVIRAA) Meet.
Luis Cinches Jurado captured seven gold medals, powering his way to a berth in the Palarong Pambansa.
Representing Tagbilaran City and Victoriano D. Tirol Advanced Learning Center, Jurado swept multiple freestyle events, topping the 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, and 1,500m races. He also played a key role in his team’s victories in the 4x100m freestyle relay and 4x100m medley relay.
His performance stood out not just for the medal haul but for the grit behind it. Jurado said the 100m freestyle demanded sharp focus against tough competition, while the grueling 1,500m race tested both his endurance and mental strength.
Behind the success is a disciplined routine. Jurado trains twice daily, six days a week—starting as early as 4:30 a.m. before school and returning to the pool in the afternoon. Despite the demanding schedule, he continues to balance academics and athletics.

He credits his progress to the steady support of his coach and family, especially his father, who ensures he makes it to training and keeps him motivated.
Jurado began swimming at age seven and entered competitive meets at 12. Outside the pool, he enjoys mountain biking, snorkeling, freediving, and spending time with family.
For Jurado, the seven gold medals symbolize more than victories—they reflect years of early mornings, sacrifices, and relentless training.
Now bound for the Palarong Pambansa, the young swimmer carries with him the hopes of Tagbilaran and Bohol as he prepares to compete on the national stage.
