TAGBILARAN CITY—Governor Erico Aristotle Aumentado has ordered the cancellation of several major provincial events as part of cost-cutting measures in response to the ongoing global crisis, including rising tensions in the Middle East that have pushed up fuel and commodity prices.
Aumentado said the provincial government is prioritizing funding for essential services such as aid programs, health care, and food security initiatives, including the rice subsidy currently being implemented by the Capitol.
Among the canceled activities are the Governor’s Cup, Foundation Day celebration, and other large-scale events that require substantial funding. While these events contribute to tourism and recreation, the governor said it is more important to address the immediate needs of the people at this time.
The Sandugo Festival, however, will not be entirely canceled but will be held in a scaled-down format. Some activities will be retained, with emphasis on income-generating events such as the Bantawan and trade fair to support local businesses and boost the provincial economy.
Aumentado expressed confidence that the move will help conserve public funds and ensure sufficient resources for contingency measures in case the global situation further deteriorates.
