TAGBILARAN CITY — The Tagbilaran City Government intensified its monitoring of fuel prices with a surprise inspection of gasoline stations on Tuesday, following another round of price increases.
Led by Vice Mayor Adam Jala together with members of the Tagbilaran City Crisis Management Committee, the inspection covered around 40 gasoline stations across the city to ensure compliance with government-mandated pricing.
Jala said the operation is part of the local government’s continuing effort to protect consumers and prevent unfair practices in fuel pricing.
“We conducted surprise inspections of gasoline stations operating in Tagbilaran City as part of monitoring fuel prices to ensure there is no abuse, profiteering, hoarding, or illegal activities, especially during this time of crisis. This is part of our duty to protect our constituents and consumers,” Jala said.
Authorities noted that several gasoline stations were selling fuel at relatively higher prices, prompting closer scrutiny.
“We found three or four gasoline stations that need to justify or explain why their fuel prices are set that way,” Jala added.
The identified stations will be issued show cause orders, requiring them to submit explanations for their pricing.
The Tagbilaran City Crisis Management Committee said it will continue its inspections and monitoring of basic commodity prices to safeguard consumers amid ongoing volatility in fuel costs.
