CANDIJAY, Bohol — The Candijay Community Hospital has issued a clarification regarding a misleading Facebook post about a suspected rabies case that recently arrived at its facility.

In an official statement, the hospital said the patient exhibited symptoms consistent with rabies, including refusal to drink water since the previous day, headache, fever, and vomiting.

During an interview, it was learned that the patient, a resident of Barangay Guio-ang in Guindulman, had been bitten by their pet dog in December 2025.

The dog reportedly died three days after the incident.

The patient was brought to the hospital at around 2 p.m. on March 17. Coordination was immediately made with the Rural Health Unit of Guindulman, and the barangay captain was informed.

However, the patient requested to undergo home quarantine instead of hospital admission. With approval from the Bohol Rabies Coordinator, the patient’s guardian signed a waiver declining admission. They were advised to wait for personnel from the Guindulman RHU to facilitate proper management.

Despite this, the patient and the guardian reportedly left the hospital against medical advice, even as a staff nurse attempted to stop them. They rode a motorcycle back home.

Authorities from the Guindulman RHU were immediately informed of the patient’s departure. As of 8 p.m. on March 17, the patient was confirmed to be at home and has been examined by the Municipal Health Officer.

The patient is currently under close monitoring, with local village watchmen assigned to ensure safety and compliance.

The hospital urged the public to rely on verified information and avoid spreading unconfirmed reports online.
