PANGLAO, Bohol — The Taiwanese couple who were robbed while dining at a beachfront restaurant on Alona Beach in Panglao last Sunday have safely returned to Taiwan following the recovery of their passport.
Lynni Unajan, who assisted the couple, said the incident happened on February 22, 2026, when an unidentified suspect took the couple’s bag while they were eating along the beachfront of Alona Beach. That same evening, the couple’s cellphone was recovered after it was found discarded in a grassy area.
Police authorities, other government agencies, and volunteers continued searching for the rest of the stolen belongings.
In response to the incident, Bohol Gov. Erico Aristotle Aumentado announced that the provincial government is offering a P100,000 reward for information leading to the identification and arrest of the suspect.
On February 23, the couple traveled to Manila to report the incident to the Taiwan Embassy, expressing deep concern as they had scheduled appointments and work commitments back home.
Unajan said the couple went through great difficulty following the robbery, even struggling to buy basic necessities such as water. She added that what was supposed to be a relaxing vacation turned into a distressing experience marked by fear and anxiety.
On February 24, authorities successfully recovered the couple’s passport after their bag was found discarded near a school and a seafood restaurant in Panglao.
In a video message, the couple expressed gratitude to the local government and police for their assistance.
“Thank you to the government of Bohol and the police for finding our passport and my bag. We really appreciate it,” they said.
