Architect Liza Macalandag has been elected chairperson of the Bohol Arts and Cultural Heritage (BACH) Council for the 2026–2029 term during the council’s General Assembly and Election on February 21, 2026.
Her election ushers in a new set of officers committed to strengthening collaboration and promoting inclusive cultural governance across the province.
The assembly was spearheaded by the provincial Government of Bohol through its Center for Culture and Arts Development, bringing together key stakeholders from the arts, culture, and heritage sectors to set the council’s direction for the next three years.
Joining Macalandag in the executive committee are Michelle Manug as treasurer, Rachel Mende as auditor, and Rachelle Lacea as secretary.
Also elected to lead the council’s major committees were Sherwin Sapong for the Arts Section, Athena Vitor for Heritage, Emilia Roslinda for Culture and Development, and Fiel Angeli Araoarao-Gabin for Culture and Governance.
In her message, Macalandag underscored the need to empower young cultural workers and revitalize each committee through stronger cross-sector collaboration.
Board Member Lawrence Xavier Ancla, chairperson of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan Committee on Culture and the Arts, assured the council of the provincial government’s full backing under Governor Aris Aumentado. He emphasized the importance of inclusive governance in sustaining cultural initiatives and enhancing the council’s role in policymaking and development efforts.
The election comes as Bohol continues to uphold its distinction as the country’s first Unesco Global Geopark, reflecting the province’s commitment to preserving its heritage while fostering creativity and cultural growth in line with its Strategic Governance Roadmap.
With new leadership at the helm, the BACH Council is expected to intensify programs that safeguard Boholano traditions, nurture local artists, and strengthen partnerships among cultural institutions and communities. With reports from PIMO
