BASYANG MAKES TWO LANDFALLS IN BOHOL — PAGASA

TAGBILARAN CITY — Tropical Depression Basyang made two landfalls in Bohol on Friday, Feb. 6, as it crossed the province, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.

Pagasa earlier confirmed that Basyang’s first landfall occurred over Bilar, Bohol, where the cyclone’s center was located as of 1 p.m., moving west-northwestward at 20 kilometers per hour (kph). At that time, the tropical depression packed maximum sustained winds of 55 kph with gusts of up to 75 kph.

Later in the afternoon, Pagasa reported that the storm made a second landfall near Dauis, Bohol, after shifting its movement west-southwestward at 15 kph.

The weather disturbance maintained its strength, with strong winds extending as far as 330 kilometers from the center.
Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 remained in effect over affected areas, indicating strong winds and a minimal to minor threat to life and property.

By 11 p.m. Friday, Pagasa said Basyang had weakened further and was already over Negros Oriental. As of 10 p.m., the center of the tropical depression was estimated in the vicinity of Ayungon, Negros Oriental, moving slowly westward with maximum sustained winds of 45 kph, gusts of up to 60 kph, and a central pressure of 1004 hPa.
