Member states of the Association of SouthEast Asian Nations (Asean) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) held the first Energy Resilience information session during the Asean Special Senior Officials’ Meeting on Energy (Special SOME) in Panglao Island in Bohol, advancing regional efforts to ensure reliable, affordable, and secure energy systems amid climate risks, technological shifts, and supply-chain challenges.

The half-day session focused on strengthening system resilience through renewable energy integration, enhancing climate resilience in a region prone to extreme weather, and improving supply-chain resilience as clean energy and grid investments expand. Participants included the Asean Secretariat, Asean Centre for Energy, and specialized energy bodies such as HAPUA and ASCOPE.

Discussions were anchored on regional indicators presented by ACE and ADB to align perspectives on Asean’s current energy resilience landscape.

As an outcome, Asean member states and ADB agreed to identify priority areas under the Asean Plan of Action for Energy Cooperation (APAEC) and integrate resilience across relevant sub-sector networks. These will be further discussed at the Energy Resilience Roundtable in June 2026, with key recommendations to be elevated to Asean energy senior officials and ministers.
