MABINI, Bohol — Police are investigating the disturbance of a grave at the Lungsodaan Public Cemetery in Mabini after the remains of a woman, buried for about nine months, were found outside her tomb on Tuesday evening, January 20, 2026.

The incident was discovered past 6 p.m., prompting authorities to respond to the cemetery where the remains were seen removed from the burial site.

Lt. Joseph Marlon Macalos, chief of Mabini Police Station, dismissed earlier claims circulating online that the remains had been sexually abused, stressing that there were no indications of rape.

Macalos said investigators are considering illegal treasure hunting as a possible motive, noting that several other tombs in the cemetery also showed signs of being forcibly opened.

The identity of the person or persons behind the exhumation has yet to be established as police continue their investigation.

Authorities said additional security measures are being considered to prevent further desecration of graves at the public cemetery.
