TAGBILARAN CITY — A predawn anti-illegal drug operation on Christmas Eve led to the arrest of an armed drug suspect and the seizure of nearly P250,000 worth of illegal drugs in this city, police said.
At around 1:06 a.m. on December 24, operatives of the Provincial Intelligence Unit and Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit (PIU/PDEU) of the Bohol Police Provincial Office (BPPO) conducted a buy-bust operation in Purok 1, Barangay San Isidro, Tagbilaran City, in coordination with the Tagbilaran City Police Station.
The operation, led by MSg Roy Pacatang and supervised by Lt. Col. Joemar Pomarejos, chief of PIU/PDEU, resulted in the arrest of a 50-year-old male suspect, an auto body technician and resident of Barangay Cogon, Tagbilaran City.
Seized from the suspect were about 36.42 grams of suspected methamphetamine hydrochloride, locally known as shabu, with an estimated standard drug price of P247,656. Police also recovered a homemade caliber .357 revolver loaded with three live rounds of ammunition.
The suspect is currently detained at the Tagbilaran City Police Station and will face charges for violations of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, and Republic Act 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
BPPO Provincial Director Police Colonel Patricio Degay Jr. commended the operating units for the successful operation, noting that it underscores the intensified campaign against illegal drugs and loose firearms in the province, especially during the holiday season.
Degay said PNP Bohol remains committed to relentlessly pursuing individuals who threaten public safety and community security, as part of efforts to ensure a peaceful Christmas and New Year celebration.
