Veteran Boholano priest-educator Fr. Florante Camacho, SVD, dies at 86

TAGBILARAN CITY — Fr. Florante “Fr. Flor” Camacho, SVD, a revered priest, educator, and community leader, passed away at 11:30 a.m. on December 25, 2025, at the Holy Name University (HNU) Medical Center in Tagbilaran City. He was 86.

Fr. Camacho devoted decades of service to the Church, the academe, and civil society, earning deep respect for his leadership and quiet dedication to community-building in Bohol and beyond.

Ordained to the priesthood in 1964, Fr. Camacho became a central figure in Catholic education in the province.

He served as president of Divine Word College of Tagbilaran, which later became Holy Name University, helping shape the institution’s mission and growth as one of Bohol’s leading centers of learning.

Beyond the classroom and the pulpit, Fr. Camacho was known as a church builder, school builder, and a leader of various civil society and non-government organizations. His work consistently reflected a commitment to service rooted not in personal gain, but in the welfare of the wider community.

A Boholano “through and through,” Fr. Camacho was born in Tagbilaran City in 1939.

Even in retirement, his legacy continued to be felt through the institutions he helped strengthen and the generations of students, church workers, and community leaders he inspired.

Details regarding funeral arrangements and memorial services have yet to be announced.
