A firefighter in Loboc, Bohol survived a serious road accident on Monday after being trapped for nearly an hour inside his fire truck, which was struck head-on by an oncoming dump truck in Barangay Jimilian.

The incident happened shortly after 12 noon on December 1. The fire truck driver, FO1 Moises Dalagan, was pinned in the cab after the dump truck suddenly swerved straight into their lane. Rescuers freed him after almost an hour and rushed him to the hospital. He is now safe and recovering.

The dump truck driver, Mark Leo Lim, is currently under the custody of the Loboc Police Station.

According to PSSG Raffy Elorde, investigator of the Loboc PNP, initial findings showed that the dump truck was at fault. Lim claimed he tried repeatedly to steer away but the vehicle failed to respond.

Elorde said adding that the truck’s failure to turn caused it to plow directly into the approaching fire truck.

The fire truck was heading back to the station from Barangay Oy, where the team had been responding to a minor landslide and had cleared mud from the road. On their way home, they unexpectedly met the accident.

The City Government of Tagbilaran also deployed its rescue team to assist in the operation.

Police are continuing their investigation to determine the mechanical condition of the dump truck and other factors behind the crash.
