TAGBILARAN CITY — A man was seriously injured after he was stabbed multiple times by his neighbor allegedly out of jealousy during a wake in Barangay Tawid Bitaug, Dimiao, on Wednesday morning.
The victim was identified as 39-year-old Jimmy Dinero Jr., married, and a resident of the area.
The suspect, 55-year-old Ronnie Lanorias, also married and a farmer, is likewise a resident of the same barangay.
According to the initial investigation of the Dimiao Municipal Police Station, the stabbing stemmed from a heated argument after Lanorias reportedly became jealous upon seeing Dinero sit beside his wife inside a small hut near the house where the wake was held.
Police said Lanorias pulled out a knife from his sling bag, prompting Dinero to run toward his brother-in-law’s house. However, the suspect caught up with him at the balcony, where he stabbed the victim three times.
Dinero sustained two stab wounds to the left side of his chest and another on his right hand.
Also injured during the commotion were barangay tanod Gregorio Rara, who was wounded on his left palm, and Cesar Cahucom, who tried to help restrain the suspect.
Dinero was rushed to the Dimiao Infirmary but was later transferred to the Gov. Celestino Gallares Memorial Medical Center in Tagbilaran City due to his critical condition.
Responding police officers arrested Lanorias and recovered the knife used in the attack. Charges are being prepared against him.
