Female employees of the Capitol gathered for a symposium on women’s health and wellness on March 25 at the Bohol Cultural Center.

The Bohol Women’s Association of Women in Government Service (BAWIGS) Multi-Purpose Cooperative in coordination with the Provincial Human Resource and Development Office (PHRMDO) spearheaded the activity that is in celebration of National Women’s Month.

Muriel Pagud, BAWIGS member of the board of directors said the organization takes part in leading the advocacy for women empowerment to inspire inclusion and forge a better world where there is belonging, relevance and empowerment.

The forum took on important concerns such as mental health, kidney disease and basic HIV/AIDS education.

Dr. Emerson Mateo, Capitol physician, said it identified the most common illnesses of employees as hypertension, hyperglycemia, hyperacidity, constipation, diarrhea, chest pain, palpitations and infection.

He explained that these illnesses all relate to stress and anxiety.

Meanwhile, Teresita Sarigumba, Renal Disease Control Program coordinator, discussed risk factors, signs and symptoms, diagnosis of kidney diseases as well as ways to keep the kidneys healthy.

March also happens to be World Kidney Month, she stated.

Milagros Israel, National AIDS and STI Prevention and Control Program Coordinator, shared basic information on HIV/AIDS.

Mariquit Derikito-Oppus, PHRMDO head, thanked BAWIGS for organizing the activity and highlighted the gender and development agenda of the provincial government.

Under the leadership of Gov. Erico Aristotle Aumentado, the provincial government is committed to advancing women empowerment through the inclusion of men in the conversation.

During flag raising rites on the same day, Aumentado swore in officers and members of the Men Opposed to Violence against women and children Everywhere (MOVE), Empowerment and Reaffirmation of Paternal Abilities (ERPAT) as well as officers of the Solo Parents Organization.

“Be a force in the Provincial Capitol to influence policy,” Oppus addressed attendees, encouraging them in efforts to ensure that programs not only extend to all Boholanos but also start from within the Capitol. (PIMO/LMS)
