The Department of Health (DOH) reported on Sunday the highest single-day fatality count at 50 from the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), bringing the toll to 297.
At the same time, DOH said it has documented 40 recoveries also on Sunday. This tally likewise appeared to be the highest single-day record of people who have managed to recover from COVID-19.
The total number of cases nationwide leaped to 4,648 after the department confirmed 220 new infections.
In March, the World Health Organization characterized COVID-19 as a pandemic.
As of April 12, the virus already infected more than 1,783,720 people and killed more than 108,900 worldwide.
