BANGKOK, THAILAND — Fatima Bosch of Mexico was crowned the 74th Miss Universe on Saturday night, securing her country’s fourth title and marking a historic moment in one of the world’s most prestigious beauty pageants.

Bosch received the crown from outgoing queen Victoria Kjaer Theilvig of Denmark, the first-ever Miss Universe winner from her country.

Mexico now ties the Philippines with four Miss Universe crowns. Only the United States (9 titles), Venezuela (7), and Puerto Rico (5) have won more.

Mexico’s last win before Bosch was in 2020, when Andrea Meza took home the crown. Meza returned to the pageant this year as part of the Selection Committee.

The Philippines also celebrated a strong performance, with Ahtisa Manalo finishing as third runner-up, the country’s best placement since Bea Luigi Gomez entered the Top 5 in 2021.

2nd Runner-Up: Venezuela

3rd Runner-Up: Philippines

4th Runner-Up: Côte d’Ivoire

A Controversial Start

Bosch’s Miss Universe journey was not without controversy. Earlier this month, during the sashing ceremony, she had a tense exchange with Miss Universe executive director and Miss Universe Thailand national director Nawat Itsaragrisil.

Nawat accused Bosch of failing to comply with the local franchise’s promotional activities and even called security on her. The confrontation prompted reigning queen Victoria Kjaer Theilvig to walk out in protest, followed by Bosch and several other candidates.

Despite the rocky start, Bosch’s performance throughout the competition won over judges and audiences, ultimately securing her the crown.

The 74th Miss Universe pageant, held in Thailand, featured delegates from around the world competing in swimwear, evening gown, and interview segments, culminating in Bosch’s victory.
