TAGBILARAN CITY — An 18-year-old worker died after he was accidentally electrocuted while repairing a chicken roasting machine in Barangay Bool, Tagbilaran City, on Thursday, Nov. 20.
The victim was identified as Jeperson Segora, a native of Misamis Oriental who had been temporarily residing in Panglao while working at a local lechon manok shop.
Initial information revealed that Segora was fixing the roaster’s machine when he reportedly touched a live wire, causing the fatal electrocution. Authorities said he was alone at the time of the incident, and no one witnessed what happened.
Segora remained unnoticed for more than an hour until a customer arrived to buy roasted chicken and found him unresponsive.
According to the establishment owner, Segora had been previously advised to switch off the breaker before repairing any equipment. Police believe he may have forgotten to turn it off before attempting the repair.
Segora, described as a hardworking young man, had been working in Bohol to save money for college.
The Binuangan National High School Supreme Secondary Learner Government (SSLG) expressed their condolences to the family, honoring Segora as “Mr. Gratitude” of Grade 12 Blessed. They remembered him as a goal-driven youth who dreamed of becoming a soldier and a friend who positively impacted many lives.
His remains are expected to be brought home to Purok 6, Mabini, Binuangan, Misamis Oriental, where his grieving family is also facing financial challenges related to transport and funeral needs.
The school community has opened channels for assistance. Donations—cash or in-kind such as coffee, bread, biscuits, and disposable utensils—may be dropped off at the SSLG Office, SHS New Building, second floor, Binuangan National High School.
