TAGBILARAN CITY — The provincial government of Bohol has approved P5 million in financial assistance for five areas in Cebu that were severely affected by flash floods brought by Typhoon Tino (Kalmaegi).

Governor Erico Aristotle Aumentado said the aid will be distributed to the municipalities of Talisay, Liloan, Compostela, Consolacion, and Danao City, which bore the brunt of the recent flooding.

“This is our way of standing in solidarity with our neighbors in Cebu during their time of need,” Aumentado said, emphasizing that Bohol knows firsthand the challenges of disaster recovery.

At the same time, Aumentado said Bohol is intensifying preparations for the possible impact of Severe Tropical Storm Uwan (international name: Fung-Wong), which is expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) late Friday night or early Saturday.

The governor said a Pre-Disaster Risk Assessment (PDRA) meeting was conducted with all concerned agencies to coordinate early response actions and ensure readiness in case the storm affects the province.

“We have learned from past experiences that preparation is key. The province is taking proactive measures to safeguard lives and livelihoods,” Aumentado added.

The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) has activated emergency monitoring and coordination centers, and local government units have been reminded to monitor flood-prone and landslide-prone areas.

Bohol, still recovering from Typhoon Tino, remains on heightened alert as Uwan continues to move westward and is forecast to intensify into a typhoon or possibly a super typhoon before making landfall over Northern Luzon early next week.
