MANILA — The tropical depression located outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) has intensified into Tropical Storm Fung-Wong, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) reported Thursday morning.
As of 4 a.m., the storm’s center was located 1,715 kilometers east of Northeastern Mindanao with maximum sustained winds of 65 km/h near the center and gusts of up to 80 km/h. It is currently moving northwestward at 20 km/h.
PAGASA said Fung-Wong is expected to enter the PAR by late Friday or early Saturday, where it will be locally named “Uwan.” The weather bureau warned that it may rapidly intensify into a typhoon or even a super typhoon before making a possible landfall over Northern or Central Luzon by Monday, November 10.
Wind signals may be raised over parts of Luzon and Samar provinces as early as Friday evening or Saturday morning. Rough to very rough sea conditions are also expected along the eastern seaboards starting Saturday.
Residents, especially those in Northern and Central Luzon, are advised to monitor official weather updates and prepare for possible strong winds, heavy rains, and coastal flooding in the coming days.
