TAGBILARAN CITY – Bohol Governor Erico Aristotle “Aris” Aumentado has ordered an investigation into the recent incident of coral vandalism in Panglao after reports surfaced that portions of the reef were deliberately damaged by unidentified individuals.

Aumentado described the incident as “deeply distressing,” saying such acts harm the environment and could negatively impact the province’s tourism industry.

“It’s disheartening that some people seem to take pleasure in destroying our natural resources or sabotaging our tourism,” the governor said in a statement.

He directed the Panglao local government unit (LGU), the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (Menro) of Panglao, and the Bohol Environment Management Office (Bemo) to conduct a thorough probe to identify and hold the perpetrators accountable.

The provincial government reiterated its commitment to protecting Bohol’s marine resources and preserving the island’s natural beauty, which has made it one of the country’s top tourist destinations.
