2 Most Wanted men killed in Tagbilaran City shootout

TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol — Two suspected criminals, including one of Bohol’s most wanted persons, were killed in an armed confrontation with police officers during a pre-dawn operation in Barangay Dampas, Tagbilaran City, on Wednesday, October 22.

Police identified the slain suspects as Adonis Chavez Gequillo, also known as Rey Daño Gequillo or “Ondoloy,” around 40 years old, and listed as the No. 2 Provincial Level Most Wanted Person, and Francis Cesar Lumothang, both residents of Tagbilaran City.

According to a report from the Tagbilaran City Police Station (TCPS) under the leadership of Lt. Col. John Kareen Oliveros Escober, the encounter happened around 3:00 a.m. at Purok 3, Upper Candait, Barangay Dampas, during the service of an arrest warrant against Gequillo for murder (Criminal Case No. 29431) and frustrated murder (Criminal Case No. 29432) issued by Judge Josephus Adel Baterna of RTC Branch 49.

Police said the operation, conducted under COPLAN MAT-AN, was intelligence-driven and based on TIP No. G02-2025. Upon arrival at the suspects’ hideout, law enforcers were reportedly fired upon, prompting them to retaliate. Both suspects were hit during the exchange of gunfire.

Authorities immediately requested assistance from the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) ambulance team, but the suspects were declared dead on the spot.

Recovered from the crime scene were one caliber .45 pistol, one KG9 submachine gun, several medium-sized sachets containing suspected shabu, and one silver Toyota Vios without a plate number

The Bohol Provincial Forensic Unit is conducting crime scene processing as of press time.

The operation forms part of the province’s intensified campaign against wanted persons and criminal elements.
