TAGBILARAN CITY — Mayor Jane Yap has announced that several schools in Tagbilaran City will resume face-to-face classes on Tuesday, October 14, after passing structural inspections and rapid post-earthquake assessments conducted by the City Post-Earthquake Assessment Team.

The team, composed of personnel from the City Engineering Office, City Planning Office, City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), and the Department of Education (DepEd), issued green tags to schools declared safe for occupancy.

Mayor Yap said the assessments focused on school buildings with two storeys and above to ensure the safety of students and teachers following the recent earthquake.

“After careful evaluation, the cleared schools are now safe for in-person classes. However, classrooms identified with structural issues must remain off-limits until repaired,” Yap said.

As of 8:30 p.m. on Monday, October 13, at least 53 public and private schools—including the University of Bohol, Tagbilaran City Science High School, Cogon National High School, and Tagbilaran City College—were cleared to reopen.

Some private schools, however, have yet to submit their structural assessment reports. The city government has urged administrators to coordinate with the City Schools Division for verification and inclusion in the cleared list.

Mayor Yap also directed all schools in Tagbilaran City to conduct earthquake and fire drills this week, with guidance from the CDRRMO and partner agencies.

“We cannot predict aftershocks, but we can prepare. Safety remains our top priority,” Yap emphasized.

The city government, in coordination with DepEd and private school administrators, continues to monitor the stability of school facilities to ensure a safe learning environment for all students.
