In a strategic move to reinforce its growing power distribution portfolio, Primelectric Holdings, Inc., led by billionaire Enrique Razon Jr., has appointed Atty. Richard Nethercott, former president and chief executive officer of the Independent Electricity Market Operator of the Philippines (IEMOP), as its Corporate Chief Operations Officer (COO).
The appointment signals Primelectric’s intent to further professionalize and expand its energy operations across the country, leveraging Nethercott’s deep expertise in electricity market governance and policy.
IEMOP operates the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM), the country’s platform for electricity trading, where Nethercott previously oversaw reforms and operational improvements. His leadership at IEMOP, combined with his prior service as a board director of the Philippine Electricity Market Corporation (PEMC), earned him recognition as one of the country’s foremost authorities on energy market operations.
Primelectric President and CEO Roel Castro said Nethercott’s entry will strengthen the Group’s capacity to deliver efficient, reliable, and customer-centered power services.
“With over five years of distinguished experience managing the country’s electricity trading floor, Atty. Nethercott brings a wealth of knowledge and leadership that will help drive Primelectric’s vision forward,” Castro said. “We are proud to welcome him as our Corporate COO, as we continue to pursue excellence and innovation in the energy sector.”
Primelectric’s expanding portfolio includes distribution utilities such as MORE Power in Iloilo, Negros Power, and Bohol Light, alongside other ventures like MORE Power Barge and the retail electricity arm PrimeRES.
For his part, Nethercott said he is eager to contribute to Primelectric’s mission of providing high-quality and reliable power service to consumers.
“It is an honor to join Primelectric and to take part in its mission of delivering the best possible service to Filipino consumers,” he said.
Nethercott, who also serves as a law professor in several universities, brings with him a blend of corporate leadership, regulatory insight, and academic discipline — qualities that Primelectric hopes to harness as it expands its influence in the Philippine energy landscape.
