Bohol 2nd District Representative Vanessa “Van-Van” Aumentado has filed a bill seeking to establish a tree park in every municipality in the country as part of efforts to promote biodiversity, environmental education, and climate resilience.

Aumentado filed House Bill No. 4892, or the proposed “Tree Park Act,” on Thursday, September 25.

The measure mandates the institutionalization of a tree park in every town in the Philippines. These parks will serve as sanctuaries of biodiversity, spaces for community gatherings and recreation, and venues for raising environmental awareness.

“The Tree Park will not only provide green spaces for communities but will also help ensure ecological balance, mitigate the impacts of climate change, and promote a healthier environment for future generations,” Aumentado said in her explanatory note.

The bill underscores the State’s constitutional duty to protect and advance the people’s right to a balanced and healthful ecology, in harmony with nature. It also supports the national government’s thrust toward sustainable development.

Funding for the establishment and maintenance of the tree parks will be allocated under the proposed measure, with local government units tasked to ensure their proper management.
