LOON, BOHOL — A change in leadership has taken place in the Municipality of Loon after Mayor Cesar Tomas “Yul” Lopez, M.D., stepped down from office following an Ombudsman ruling related to a case filed in 2021.
The announcement was made during the town’s 36th Regular Flag-Raising Ceremony on Monday, Sept. 8, where Mayor Lopez, Vice Mayor Pedro M. Literatus Jr., and members of the 16th Sangguniang Bayan were present alongside municipal employees and representatives of national agencies.
Lopez expressed gratitude to his constituents for their support during his tenure, particularly for the recently concluded fiesta celebration, which he said highlighted Loon’s competitiveness and unity. He assured residents that he respects the Ombudsman’s decision and will pursue available legal remedies in Manila, while also ensuring that the transition of leadership adheres to the rule of law.
Following the Department of the Interior and Local Government’s (DILG) directive, Vice Mayor Literatus formally assumed the duties and responsibilities of Local Chief Executive. In his address, Literatus underscored that his new role was not driven by personal ambition but by his obligation to uphold lawful governance and guarantee uninterrupted delivery of public services.
“I assure everyone that government operations—from employee salaries to ongoing projects—will continue without disruption,” Literatus said, calling on municipal employees and officials for cooperation in maintaining efficiency and organized governance.
The leadership transition, witnessed publicly during the flag-raising ceremony, underscored Loon’s resilience and commitment to institutional integrity. Local leaders vowed that, despite political changes, the municipality remains united in advancing programs that serve the people.
