CEBU, Philippines — Bohol Governor Erico Aristotle Aumentado admitted that the proposed Cebu-Bohol Expressway or SugBohol Bridge remains a distant dream as it still lacks a finalized feasibility study (FS).
Speaking at the Regional Development Council (RDC) 7 meeting on August 28, Aumentado stressed that major infrastructure projects must start with a sound FS, which should be led by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH). He added that the project could move faster if pursued through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP), similar to Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX).
First introduced nearly a decade ago under the “Build, Build, Build” program, the 25-kilometer bridge has yet to move beyond paper. Cebu Governor Pamela Baricuatro also expressed optimism that a PPP scheme would be the most practical way forward.
Meanwhile, Aumentado said Bohol is pushing for other key projects, including the P6-billion Tagbilaran-Dauis-Panglao connector bridge, the expansion of the Bohol-Panglao International Airport, and initiatives to tap the province’s water resources. He also floated the idea of a monorail system linking Tagbilaran and Panglao to ease urban mobility.
