Bohol 3rd District Representative Alexie Besas-Tutor has been appointed as the new Chairperson of the House Committee on Globalization and the World Trade Organization (WTO).
In a statement, Rep. Tutor expressed her deep gratitude to the leadership of the House of Representatives and her colleagues in the 20th Congress for the trust and confidence they have placed in her.
“This new role is a natural progression from my previous position as Chairperson of the Committee on Civil Service and Professional Regulation,” she said. “But now, the scope has expanded to include critical issues on global services and international trade.”
Tutor highlighted the growing importance of addressing rising trade tariffs, evolving global trade systems, and the expansion of the global services market.
Through this committee, Tutor said the House now has a clear voice in shaping policies and mechanisms related to the international recognition of qualifications, credentials, and degrees of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs).
She added that the committee will work closely with the Department of Migrant Workers, Department of Foreign Affairs, Department of Trade and Industry, TESDA, CHED, and the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) to ensure global acknowledgment of Filipino professionals and technical workers.
“We believe in the capability of our Filipino professionals and technicians to compete globally, and we trust our exporters to deliver world-class products and services,” Tutor said.
She called on all stakeholders to work together in fulfilling this important responsibility.
