3 Bohol solons vote Romualdez as House Speaker in 20th Congress

MANILA, Philippines — All three district representatives from Bohol province voted in favor of Leyte 1st District Rep. Ferdinand Martin Romualdez, who was re-elected as Speaker of the House of Representatives during the opening of the 20th Congress on Monday, July 28.

Bohol 1st District Rep. John Geesnell “Baba” Yap, 2nd District Rep. Vanessa Cadorna-Aumentado, and 3rd District Rep. Kristine Alexie Besas-Tutor cast their votes for Romualdez, who secured the speakership unopposed.

Romualdez garnered 269 votes out of the total House membership, according to House Secretary General Reginald Velasco. Thirty-four lawmakers abstained from voting.

In a brief message after his re-election, Romualdez vowed to continue pursuing legislative measures to sustain economic growth, promote peace and order, and support President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s development agenda.

The Bohol lawmakers joined the majority in supporting Romualdez, who also led the House during the previous 19th Congress. His unopposed election signals continued political stability and majority coalition support in the lower chamber.

The opening session marked the start of the 20th Congress’ first regular session at the Batasang Pambansa in Quezon City.

MANILA, Philippines— The three representatives of Bohol have votes for Leyte 1st District Rep. Ferdinand Martin Romualdez as speaker of the House of Representatives.

Following the opening of the 20th Congress’ first regular session on Monday morning, the three district representatives of Bohol- Rep. John Geesnell Yap (1st), Vanessa Cadorna-Aumentado (2nd) and Kristine Alexie Besas-Tutor (3rd) voted Romualdez to lead the 20th Congress,
winning the post unopposed.

He received 269 votes, according to House Secretary Reginald Velasco. Meanwhile, 34 lawmakers abstained.
