MARIBOJOC, BOHOL — An early morning fire destroyed a residential house in Sitio Kasangaan, Barangay San Roque, Maribojoc, on Thursday, July 24, but fortunately left no injuries or fatalities.
At around 5:50 a.m., police received a report from a concerned citizen about a house on fire. Responding personnel from the Maribojoc Police Station and the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) immediately rushed to the scene.
The house, made of light materials, was owned by Isabel Bentores, 89, who lived there with her companion, Auria Paderog, 82. Both women escaped the fire unharmed.
Initial investigation by the BFP revealed that the fire started at approximately 5:40 a.m., triggered by a lighted candle placed on a plastic chair, which ignited and quickly spread through the house. Firefighters were able to contain and extinguish the blaze by 6:20 a.m.
Authorities estimated the damage at around P100,000. Maribojoc Police are coordinating closely with the BFP for further investigation and safety monitoring.
Residents are reminded to practice fire safety, especially when using candles or other open flames inside homes, particularly in structures made of easily flammable materials.
