Elderly man killed in hacking incident in Guindulman town

GUINDULMAN, BOHOL — An elderly man was killed in a brutal hacking incident following a heated altercation during a drinking session in Barangay Cansiwang on Sunday afternoon, July 20.

Authorities identified the victim as Angelo Omapas, 78, a resident of Purok 2, Barangay Cansiwang. He died instantly after sustaining multiple hack wounds during a fight with the suspect, Samuel Balaba, 67, who also resides in the same area.

According to a spot report from the Guindulman Municipal Police Station (MPS), the two were drinking together around 2 p.m. when a heated argument broke out, leading to a violent confrontation. The suspect was armed with a bolo, while the victim had a scythe. The altercation ended fatally for Omapas.

Responding officers led by Police Senior Master Sergeant Benjie Betonio and supervised by Police Captain Exelsis Baring Belciña conducted a hot pursuit operation, resulting in the suspect’s immediate arrest within the barangay.

The bolo and scythe used in the incident were recovered at the scene.

The suspect is now in police custody at the Guindulman MPS while charges of homicide are being prepared against him.
