Man bitten by cobra in Danao

TAGBILARAN CITY, BOHOL — A man is currently recovering in the hospital after being bitten by a venomous Philippine cobra while foraging for coconuts in the forested area of Barangay Tabok, Danao town around 1:30 p.m. on Sunday.

The victim was identified as Hermigildo Tanud-tanod, 43, a resident of the area.

According to reports, Tanud-tanod had gone into the nearby woods across from his home to collect coconut shells, which he intended to clean and sell. While gathering a pile of husks, he was accidentally bitten by a Philippine cobra, locally known as “ugahipon.”

The snake bit his left finger, prompting his immediate transfer to the Gov. Celestino Gallares Memorial Medical Center in Tagbilaran City, where he was administered anti-venom.

As of press time, he remains under medical observation and care.

The Philippine cobra (Naja philippinensis) is known for its potent neurotoxic venom and is considered one of the most dangerous snake species in the country.
