The Office of the Governor has denied allegations that Governor Aris Aumentado was involved in cutting the electricity of a prayer rally in support of former President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday, March 17, 2025 in Trinidad town, Bohol.

In an official statement issued on March 19, the Governor’s Office clarified that the power outage was caused by an electrocuted tuko (gecko), as confirmed by the Bohol II Electric Cooperative (Boheco II) as posted in their official Facebook account.

“We categorically deny the allegation. Such an incident never happened,” the statement read, condemning the insinuation as an attempt to create division.

The Bohol local government also denounced “in the strongest possible terms the nature of the insinuation that is meant to sow division among our people.”

It maintained that it supports the people’s right to assembly and expression.

“We attach great importance to the aforementioned rights in driving clean governance as championed by Governor Aumentado,” it said.

On Monday, at least 2,000 supporters in Trinidad joined the prayer rally held at the Motropoll Ground when the electricity tripped twice.

However, some netizens blamed the power interruption to Aumentado.

Boheco II said the 8:31 p. m. electricity outage affected Trinidad, Bien Unido and some areas in Ubay town. It was caused by an electricuted gecko in the electrical system.
