TAGBILARAN CITY, BOHOL – The National Irrigation Administration (NIA) Region VII planted 3,250 trees across Central Visayas on July 4, 2025, in celebration of the agency’s 62nd founding anniversary.
The region-wide activity was part of a simultaneous nationwide tree planting campaign, aligned with the National Greening Program under Executive Orders No. 23 (2011) and No. 193 (2016). With the theme “Luntiang Kagubatan, Matatag na Irigasyon,” the initiative aimed to restore forest cover and strengthen watershed areas vital to irrigation systems.
The trees were planted over 8.2 hectares and included 1,300 fruit-bearing species—such as jackfruit, guyabano, santol, and pomelo—and 1,950 indigenous trees like narra, molave, bamboo, mangrove, cinnamon tree (kalingag), and breadfruit (antipo).
Tree planting activities were conducted in key NIA project sites across Bohol, Negros Oriental, and Cebu. These included the Mabini-Cayacay SRIP, Malinao IS, Talibon SRIS, Benliw SRIS, Hibale SRIP, and Ilaya SRIS in Bohol; Dauin SRIS in Negros Oriental; and the Busay Pump Irrigation Project in Moalboal, Cebu.
The initiative drew 426 participants, including NIA Region VII staff, municipal police, barangay officials, and Irrigators Associations, showcasing a collective commitment to environmental stewardship.
NIA’s annual tree planting highlights its long-term vision for sustainable irrigation and climate resilience by protecting and rehabilitating watersheds across the country. With reports from NIA-7
