DANAO, BOHOL — A decades-long dream for local farmers has finally begun to take shape as officials broke ground for the ₱970-million Hibale Small Reservoir Irrigation Project in Danao town on Friday, July 4.
The project, which was conceptualized 34 years ago by the late Bohol Governor and Representative Erico B. Aumentado, officially commenced construction with the support of national and local leaders.
Present during the groundbreaking ceremony were Gov. Aris Aumentado, Second District Representative Vanessa Aumentado, representatives from the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) and local officials.
“This is a dream come true. It was a vision started by my father more than three decades ago, and we never stopped working to make it a reality,” the governor said.
The irrigation project includes the construction of a water impounding dam that will serve an estimated 405 hectares of agricultural land, benefitting around 800 farmers in the municipality and nearby areas.
The Hibale Dam is expected to significantly boost agricultural productivity, improve farmers’ incomes, and contribute to Bohol’s long-term food security.
Construction is set to begin immediately, with stakeholders hopeful the project will transform the agricultural landscape of Danao and surrounding barangays.
