The municipal government of Ubay in Bohol was placed under a state of calamity due to African Swine Fever (ASF).

A resolution was approved on Wednesday, Jan. 8, during the regular session of the Sangguniang Bayan (SB) with Vice Mayor Victor Bonghanoy as presiding officer.

The SB approved a resolution recommended by the municipal disaster risk and reduction management council headed by Mayor Constantino Reyes.

Three out of 44 barangays in Ubay have reported cases of ASF in hog farms.

About 171 pigs have been slaughtered and buried to prevent the further spread of ASF.

Bohol Gov. Erico Aristotle Aumentado issued Executive Order 57, “Immediate Moratorium of Boar-for-Hire Activities for a Period of Six Months” and  Executive Order 58, mandating the accreditation of hog traders to ensure proper monitoring and regulation of hog-related activities to curb the spread of ASF.

He said it was learned that the boar-for-hire operations has been identified one of the primary causes of the recent ASF outbreak in Central Bohol.
