Gov. Aris Aumentado on Monday urged his fellow Boholanos to emulate the virtues of the late President Carlos P. Garcia on his 128th birth anniversary.

“President Carlos P. Garcia truly is Bohol’s favorite son – a figure that every Boholano can relate to, a Boholano who inspires us to aim higher in life,” said Aumentado during CPG program at the Bohol Cultural Center.

He said it should be the people’s responsibility to ensure that his legacy of service to the nation lives on, reflecting our gratitude for everything he has done for the province and the country.

CPG, was a Filipino teacher, poet, orator, lawyer, public official, political economist, guerrilla and Commonwealth military leader who was the eighth President of the Philippines.

He was a delegate of the 1971 Constitutional Convention, on which his fellow delegates had selected him as its first president.

“From the moment he was born to his last breath, Garcia showed that a Boholano can succeed and bring glory to our beloved hometown,” said Aumentado.

He added, “His life serves as an example to all of us. He demonstrated that even if we have achieved greatness in life, we should stay grounded, never forgetting who we are and where we came from.”

A wreath laying ceremony was held at CPG’s statue at the Capitol grounds. It was followed by the inauguration of the exhibit PAGHANDUM: The President Carlos P. Garcia Memorabilia Collection at the National Museum of the Philippines (NMP) – Bohol.

The gallery exhibition has a selection of artworks, photographs, furniture, and personal memorabilia— honoring the enduring legacy of the late President.

The CPG Excellence Awards were also given to outstanding Boholanos who excelled in different fields.
